Workshop Information

Since graduating in Textiles from Manchester Metropolitan University in 1999 I have been working as an artist, undertaking exhibitions and commissions, selling my work through shops, galleries and shows, as well as running art workshops in schools, colleges and galleries.

I predominantly run experimental workshops, in which the participants are asked to investigate the qualities of non-traditional and found media. The main emphasis of this is to encourage the group to re-assess their perception of art, and to become innovative in their choice of media. Much of my work is environmentally friendly and incorporates the recycling and reuse of found media.

From my curriculum vitae you will note I have experience of working with a wide range of groups within the community, from children in schools to adults in a gallery environment. I also have experience of working with groups with special needs and students excluded from mainstream schools.

I work with year 4 upwards, as many of the workshops I run are too difficult for groups younger than this. Also, as I use equipment, such as laminators, I feel this could be unsafe with younger groups. I am, however, able to work with younger children if it is part of family learning and they are accompanied by a parent/guardian.

For the workshops I charge £210 per day plus 40p per mile for travel expenses*, which is the standard artists rate, as recommended by both the Arts Council of England and the Crafts Council. This is generally inclusive of materials, but this is dependent on the length of project and type of work undertaken. I have Public Liability insurance up to 5 million pounds, and have enhanced CRB disclosure.

(*This has just recently gone up due to rising fuel prices).
